Why I'm so worked up | nephari's Blog

"Why get so worked up?" You all ask. "It's India, not here." You're part of the problem. You think the same way. That it's their fault if they didn't do Everything on a Long List: Don't dress like a slut Don't act like a slut, Don't be a slut Don't drink Don't walk alone Don't go out or come home when it's dark Don't walk down the wrong street. Didn't take self defense classes. Didn't scream Didn't resist Didn't have pepper spray or variants of it Didn't have a weapon/improvised weapon Don't board the wrong taxi. Don't board the wrong bus. I'm sure you can think of more precautions. And yet you say: Don't be paranoid And yet you tell me Don't get so worked up. You think a drunk woman who got mass-groped at a bar should have expected people not to respect her distress because she was inviting it. If anything happened to me Are you going to ask me "What did you do to invite it?" Are you going to say I "asked for it" Will you say "What did you not do? If I were overpowered, will you say that if I trained hard enough that it wouldn't have happened? And yet you tell me Don't get so worked up.
